Excavations at Bartow County's Leake Site
This sherd, recovered from the Swift Creek midden, is decorated with narrow, deeply incised lines that form a cross-hatched pattern. Cross-hatching, whether through incising, rocker stamping, or simple stamping, is a common motif of Hopewellian pottery. However, the small size of this sherd inhibits a definitive analysis of the type. We have recovered several other sherds exhibiting cross-hatched designs.
